This fanlisting is dedicated to a very special person in my life and in my maternal family's. It is dedicated to a Belgian soldier from Liege named Désiré Croupette. My maternal great grandmother was his war godmother. They wrote each other back and forth until the end of the war. It is with passion that we read his letters, describing the horrors he saw. He was given a medal of honor for coming back to his camp with a wounded soldier on his back. After trying to reach members of his family who could still be alive in Belgium, I contacted one of his nieces who gave me the number of Désiré's only daughter who had moved to the United States in 1945. We were able to put the pieces together and found out that our beloved soldier died of a liver syrosis in the early 1940's. My mother, my aunt and I are all fascinated by his letters and he lives in our hearts, we grew to love this sweet 23-year-old Wallonian man who truly is a hero. His story is a thousand others'...
